Rooms: Las habitaciones… ¡ay, las habitaciones! Available in all rooms: Aire acondicionado, Air conditioning, lo primero a resaltar, ¡necesitaba eso! Internet access – wireless (Wi-Fi [free]): Y, por supuesto, el Wi-Fi gratuito, Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Extra long bed ¡Es el paraíso!
Pool with view: La piscina, con vistas…
Comida, Bebida y Más Comida (¡Y No Me Quejo!)
Restaurants, Bar, Poolside bar: ¡Vamos, el restaurante! ¡El punto fuerte! A la carte in restaurant, Buffet in restaurant: El menú a la carte, una delicia. El buffet… ¡un peligro! Asian cuisine in restaurant, Western cuisine in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant: Hay opciones para todos los gustos. Breakfast [buffet], Western breakfast, Asian breakfast: El desayuno buffet… Bottle of water: ¡Agua gratis! Desserts in restaurant: ¡Los postres! ¡Madre mía! Salad in restaurant, Soup in restaurant: Las ensaladas y las sopas, para (intentar) equilibrar…
Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hygiene certification, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol, Sterilizing equipment: La limpieza, la seguridad… ¡importante! Check-in/out [express, private, contactless]: Check-in y check-out rápido y privado, ¡se agradece!
Things to do, ways to relax: La Reserve es perfecto para relajarse. Terrace: ¡La terraza!
Concierge, Luggage storage, Daily housekeeping, Ironing service, Laundry service, Dry cleaning, Currency exchange, Cash withdrawal, Convenience store, Elevator, Air conditioning in public area, Facilities for disabled guests, Doctor/nurse on call, Business facilities, Meeting/banquet facilities… Hay de todo y más. ¡Super completo!

¡ALBI! ¡AY, ALBI! (My Messy Love Letter to the Hôtel-Restaurant La Réserve)
¡Dios mío! Just thinking about Albi makes my stomach do a little flip. That's probably the foie gras talking, but still…
(Wednesday: Arrival & That Bridge That Changed Everything)
14:00 – Arrival at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS). Okay, so the flight was a disaster. Tiny plane, questionable air conditioning, and a screaming baby who seemed to have a PhD in auditory assault. But, hey, France! After the baggage merry-go-round from hell (seriously, has anyone EVER found their suitcase quickly at TLS?), we’re finally in a taxi, heading for Albi.
15:30 – Check-in at La Réserve. The moment! That magnificent building staring at us. The hotel! I swear, when I saw it, I literally gasped. That classic, elegant French style. Inside the reception, the receptionist with a beautiful smile… oh, and she spoke perfect English, thank God - my French is currently "oui, baguette, merci." We get the key and head to our room, giddy with anticipation.
16:00 - The Room… and Tears. Oh, the room! We were given a room overlooking the Tarn river. We threw the bags and quickly ran to the balcony! Tears. Literally, I shed a tear. The bridge, the Pont Vieux, was so majestic. I want to live there. I don't care, I want to become a hermit just so I can look at this place for the rest of my life. I swear I've never seen anything so beautiful.
17:00 - Exploration & "The Incident." We needed to explore to keep our excitement up. First, a walk along the river. The air smells of… well, something wonderful. Fresh, clean, a hint of the future… or maybe it was just the anticipation of dinner. And then… The Incident. Let's just say I managed to trip over a cobblestone and nearly take out a group of elderly tourists. My face turned beet red, I babbled apologies in broken French, and we quickly retreated. Mortified.
19:00 - Apéro in the Hotel Bar. We quickly forgot the cobblestone incident. We celebrated our survival with a Kir Royale. The bartender, a charming man with a twinkle in his eye, made us perfect drinks. The bar was so inviting. We felt so relaxed as if we were in a movie.
20:30 - Dinner at La Réserve Restaurant. This is why we came. I had to. We were immediately seated, and the room felt as though heaven had created a dining hall. The restaurant was beautiful. The menu was a work of art. My French was a little better after the few glasses of wine we had. I went for the foie gras (of course!). It was absolutely divine. The richness, the melting texture… I could weep again. Then I tried the duck confit. Oh lord, the duck confit! It was perfect, crisp skin, perfectly melted inside. The service was impeccable, the sommelier guided us through the wine list.
23:00 - Bedtime Bliss. I fell asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow. The most perfect day.
(Thursday: Albi's Secrets & My Obsessive Love of the Tarn)
08:00 - Breakfast. It would be a crime not to have breakfast at the hotel. The breakfast room was as perfect as dining room, elegant, and with a beautiful view. A buffet of all the goodness of France. Pastries, cheeses, meats… everything. And of course, strong coffee. Pure bliss.
09:00 - Exploring Albi's Treasures. We explored Albi. First the Cathedral, of course – Sainte-Cécile. Holy wow! It's an impressive gothic cathedral. The interior! The scale! The details! I could spend the whole day just looking up at everything! Then we wandered through the old town, so many cobblestone streets. I was still feeling a bit self-conscious about the cobblestone incident, so I took extra care with my steps.
12:00 - Lunch at a Creperie (with a Side of Regret). A small break for lunch. We went for a creperie with a cute patio, and it was lovely. The crepe was good, but I really regretted not going back to the hotel restaurant. Ah, the agony of choice. What have I done?
14:00 - Musée Toulouse-Lautrec…and Emotional Overload. Then… the museum! The Toulouse-Lautrec Museum! I was captivated by his paintings. The colors, the way he captured the energy of the late 19th century, the people. His paintings of the dancers, the women… I could feel their stories. So much emotion! I felt tears welling up again more than once!
16:00 - Back to the Tarn, The Addiction. Again, the bridge. Again, the river. I had to go back. I sat for hours by the edge of the river, just staring at the view. The way the light played on the water, the reflections of the buildings… I felt at peace. I could have spent a lifetime there, just breathing in the air and absorbing the beauty. I think I'm obsessed with the Tarn. This is no exaggeration.
19:00 - Wine and Cheese on the Balcony. Since we were full from the creperie, we decided to buy local cheese and a bottle of wine to enjoy on the balcony. The best! Just the simple elegance of the food, the wine, and the view.
21:00 - Casual Dinner at the Hotel. We chose a more relaxed dinner, and were not disappointed. Another amazing meal. Simple, delicious, and the best service.
(Friday: Leaving and the Longing)
09:00 - Breakfast, Last of Its Beauty. I savored every bite. This was our last breakfast. I tried to remember the taste of every food in the buffet.
10:00 - Final Walk & Souvenir Panic. One last walk around Albi to capture every corner of the city one last time. We bought souvenirs, keychains, small trinkets. And panic as we realized that we were leaving.
11:00 - Check-Out & Goodbye: The final, dreaded goodbye. My heart felt so heavy as we left. The staff smiled and bid us farewell.
12:00 - Departure for Toulouse-Blagnac Airport. Before the flight, I swore to myself that I would come back. I would come back to the bridge, to the Tarn, to the Hôtel-Restaurant La Réserve. I need to return!
16:00 - Back Home. Oh dear God, the arrival from hell. My bags didn't arrive in the right place. I hated the flight to my destination. But the feeling of happiness, the memory of Albi, made it all worth it. I can't wait to go back.
