¡Sueña en Suecia! Roda Stallet Bed & Breakfast: ¡Tu escapada perfecta te espera!
¡Sueña en Suecia! Roda Stallet Bed & Breakfast: ¡Tu Escapada Perfecta… O Casi!
Let me tell you, I just stumbled out of a really long Zoom call, fueled by nothing but instant coffee and existential dread, and the thought of a getaway… ahem… was luminous. So, let's dive in, shall we? This isn't your typical travel blog, folks. Buckle up, porque a veces la vida es un lío, y este review… también.
Accessibility (Y Más O Menos):
Empezamos con lo importante. ¿Es accesible para todos? Well, the info says "Facilities for disabled guests," the elevator is a plus, y "Oh, and they have a car park in-site, free of charge", pero… (deep breath) it gets a little messy. Necesitaría una investigación más profunda sobre las habitaciones específicas y la facilidad de movimiento general. Translation: Needs more investigating on the specifics, y no me fío mucho aún, porque a veces la vida es un engaño.
Comida, Bebida y… ¡Felicidad!
¡El Desayuno! (y el resto): I'm a sucker for a good breakfast buffet. ¡Buffet en el restaurante! ¡Asian, Western, lo que sea! ¡Soy un glotón! But I'll eat anything, and the thought of Asian cuisine in the restaurant and Vegetarian options just makes my stomach rumble. And the Poolside bar? ¡Necesito un piña colada ya! A la carte in restaurant and Breakfast service gives you more options too, but I also love Breakfast takeaway service, because, lets be honest, sometimes you're just too lazy to face the world.
The Quirks: I kind of love the idea of a Coffee shop right there. Sometimes you just need a caffeine fix, and not have to go far for it.
Bienestar y Relax: Sauna, Spa… ¡Y Quizás Un Drama!
- ¡The Good Stuff! Okay, are you ready for the fun part? Sweating profusely in the sauna, followed by a pool with a view. Yasss queen, yasss. They have the whole shebang: Body scrub, Body wrap, Fitness center, Massage, Spa, Spa/sauna, Steamroom, Swimming pool, Swimming pool [outdoor]… I'm already picturing myself, floating, unburdened by the weight of adulting. ¡Ya me veo!
- ¡The Unspoken Truth! (or how I nearly drowned): Now, look. I went to a spa once, fully expecting a Zen experience. It was supposed to be relaxing. But, it had a pool with a view. OMG! As soon as I threw my towel down (because, clearly, I'm not used to this level of luxury), I immediately tripped on a slightly uneven tile on the way to the pool. I nearly ate the pool! I recovered like a pro… pretended that was my normal entrance. Lesson: Pools are treacherous. But still… I'd do it again. Maybe take less of a run-up to the pool. This place sounds like it has the goods. Like really, really good.
Limpieza y Seguridad (¡Porque el COVID Nos Asusta a Todos!):
- La Era Post-Pandemia: ¡Thank goodness! Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Individually-wrapped food options. This is the stuff that's essential. They have the usual: Hand sanitizer, Staff training in safety protocol, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup. Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Rooms sanitized between stays, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol and Sterilizing equipment. Good call! I love that is an option of letting them not enter your room at all!
Servicios y Comodidades (¡Un Mundo de Posibilidades!):
- The Perks: First off, the Daily housekeeping makes me giddy. They also have a Concierge, Laundry service, Luggage storage, and Convenience store. Helloooo vacation mode! I also love the idea of Invoice provided. I can bill it all to the company.
- The Unexpected Charm: Babysitting service, Dry cleaning, Ironing service and a Gift/souvenir shop. I love it. What are the unexpected things that can happen to someone, right?
Para Los Niños (And for the Inner Child!):
- Kids facilities and Babysitting service make it family-friendly which is awesome.
En la Habitación (¡Mi Santuario!):
- The Must-Haves: Air conditioning, Free Wi-Fi, Blackout curtains, Coffee/tea maker, Free bottled water, Hair dryer, In-room safe box, Private bathroom, Shampoo… you know, the usual luxuries that make a hotel room feel like a little haven. And a Desk is a plus. I cannot live without a desk.
- The Unexpected Details (and a mini-rant): Additional toilet! Interconnecting room(s) available, Laptop workspace. Love all these details!
- I need the Internet access – Wi-Fi, the Coffee/tea maker, the Refrigerator because I need a place to store my food and my drinks. And the Desk, because I need to work sometime. Free Wi-Fi, of course!
Getting Around (¡A Viajar!):
- Easy Peazy: Airport transfer, Car park [free of charge], Taxi service… Getting there and back easy is a big plus.
Other Bits and Bobs (El Resto de la Magia):
- Front desk [24-hour]. Facilities for disabled guests, Car park on site, Car power charging station, Check-in/out [express]… All good things.

Roda Stallet: A Bed & Breakfast, a Breakdown (and hopefully, Breakfast)
Day 1: Arrival and the Almost-Disaster of the Keys
- 14:00 - 14:30 (ish… or maybe slightly later): Arrive in Roda Stallet! Which, let's be honest, felt like a trek across the tundra. Got off the train in… (checks notes) …Flen. Cute little town. Cute! But the instructions they gave me to find the B&B felt like a riddle from a damn Viking saga. "Walk towards the red barn." Okay, Sherlock Holmes. Finally, I found it. Red barn indeed. Gorgeous, actually. The kind of place that makes you want to Instagram everything… before you've even unpacked.
- 14:30 - 15:00: The key. Oh, the KEY! This is where it started to unravel. My meticulously-prepared "Hello, I am a perfectly capable traveler!" facade crumbled. I dug through my bag. Nothing. Panic. Was I locked out already? This will be an disaster, how can I even get in the room, oh god. After what felt like an eternity (which was probably 10 minutes, but hey, anxiety is a powerful drug), I found it. Tucked in the side pocket of my backpack, where it had been all along. Note to self: breathe.
- 15:00 - 16:00: Unpack. Or attempt to. My suitcase exploded like a fashion bomb. Clothes everywhere. But hey, at least I have everything.
- 16:00 - 17:00: Wandering around the yard, admiring the horses, a sense of feeling relaxed, then I thought about my to-do list, and stress washed over me. I saw this elderly couple laughing at a bird pecking at the ground. I wish I could forget and be myself.
- 17:00 - 19:00: Settling in, a cup of tea, and attempt to read a book. Focus: zero. Kept getting distracted by the view. The silence is so deafening. I could hear my heart racing. This is so beautiful, but it also reminds me of the loneliness I feel.
Day 2: Foraging, Fika, and the Great Berry Debacle
- 08:00 - 09:00: Breakfast! The actual reason I booked a B&B. I'm hoping for hearty, not-too-sweet, and possibly containing bacon? God I hope so.
- 09:00 - 12:00: Foraging expedition! Apparently, there are berries and mushrooms to be found. Signed up for this guided hike. Now, I'm not exactly Bear Grylls. More like Mildly Curious Person Who Gets Lost in IKEA. This will be interesting. The guide, an old woman named Astrid, with eyes so blue they could freeze the Arctic, was intense. She pointed out edible plants, then told me a story about eating a poisonous mushroom and ending up dancing naked in a lake. Lovely. Felt a little unsafe.
- 12:00 - 13:00: Fika time! Swedish coffee break. I have a feeling the pastry selection might be my downfall. First one, a cinnamon bun, went down in like, 30 seconds flat. Maybe I should pace myself. The coffee was strong. I think I need something to absorb the coffee and the anxiety. I ate another bun in slow motion, enjoying the deliciousness while the loneliness crept back in.
- 13:00 - 15:00: Back to the Great Berry Debacle. So, Astrid showed us different kinds of berries, and I've never collected a berry in my life. I think I found some… something. Ate one. Tasted… well, like dirt and disappointment. Turns out, I probably ate a bad berry. Oops. More oopseroo than a Viking long boat.
- 16:00 - 19:00: I thought I would feel calm in these surroundings, but all I did was think and think. Then I thought of all the work I have to do, and my mind went blank. I went back to my room. Feeling a sense of dread, the weight of everything on my shoulders.
Day 3: The Castle, the Wind, and a Sudden Yearning for Pizza
- 09:00 - 10:00: Breakfast! This time, I ate what's left of the bread, and made myself a sandwich. Then a few more to-go.
- 10:00 - 13:00: Visit to a local castle. Historical buildings are sort of my thing. Did the obligatory walking around the castle, and I felt a sense of peace. Then the wind picked up. It's one of those winds that actually penetrates your bones and tries to steal your soul. I started to reconsider my life choices.
- 13:00 - 14:00: Wandering the town, and the craving for something other than Swedish food became intense. Pizza. A giant, greasy pizza. I actually googled "Swedish pizza delivery." My stomach churned. I really need pizza. I went to a local store and bought some chips. Ate them with the sadness that comes from realizing you live for junk food.
- 15:00 - 17:00: Sitting in the garden, reading. It was a nice atmosphere. Calmness. But then I saw the horse and thought if my life would be different if I was a different person. Did I make the wrong choices?
- 17:00 - 20:00: Dinner. The B&B hosts made a lovely meal. Nice of them. I still felt the pit of sadness, and the memories of the past, and a small part of me wished to go home. I made myself a promise: Tomorrow, I will smile.
Day 4: Departure and a Promise to Return (Maybe)
- 09:00 - 10:00: Breakfast. Another round of coffee. And a final cinnamon bun. You know, for the road.
- 10:00 - 11:00: Packing. Trying to squeeze everything back in. This time, the key was in the right pocket. Small victories.
- 11:00 - 12:00: Saying goodbye. To the red barn, the horses, the silence. To the… well, the adventure. It wasn't perfect. Far from it. But there was something about the place, a quiet beauty, that has a way of growing on you. As I walked back to the station, I smiled. But I think next time I might bring my own pizza. And maybe a therapist. And a friend.
Okay, that's it. Hope you enjoyed the chaos!
¡Varinia Serena: El Paraíso Escondido de Alange que Debes Descubrir!¿Qué diablos es exactamente ¡Sueña en Suecia! Roda Stallet? ¿Otro B&B aburrido?
¡Ay, no, por favor, no! No, no, *no*! ¡Sueña en Suecia! (Dream in Sweden, for those not fluent in the poetry of Spanish) es, bueno, es... Es mi intento de escapar de la rutina. Seriously, it's a B&B (aka Bed & Breakfast) in Sweden, in a place called Roda Stallet, which, if my Swedish serves me correctly, means "Red Stable." And it's *not* one of those stuffy, doilies-and-silence-required places, thank goodness! It's more like... imagine a quirky old horse barn (yes, *a horse barn!*), lovingly converted into comfy rooms with a mix of antique furniture and modern comforts. We're talking *hygge* central, people! You're probably thinking "horse barn? Really?" Yeah. *Really.* A little bit of rusticity with cozy vibes. My personal little project, where I can, admittedly, occasionally lose my marbles (more on THAT later!). It's a place to escape the everyday, embrace the slower pace of life, and, hopefully, get *some* sleep. Which, as a host with a penchant for insomnia, is a hilarious goal. But hey, I try!
¿Dónde está exactamente y cómo se llega? Porque Suecia es...grande.
Okay, location! We are deep in the heart of Sweden, near a town called... wait, I'm terrible with directions. Uh... let me grab my phone! *Rummages, grumbles...* Okay, it's close to... Västervik! It’s on the coast of the Baltic Sea which is pretty darn charming, I must admit. And it's a bit of a drive. Prepare for beautiful scenery! You'll fly into Stockholm (Arlanda Airport), and then you got a few options: Rent a car (my preferred method – freedom!), take a train (Swedish trains are surprisingly efficient!), or (and I'm not judging you, but...) take a bus. Just plan on it being a bit of a trek, okay? It's part of the charm, right? The journey! The anticipation! The... caffeine dependency that will inevitably develop.
¿Qué hay para hacer? ¿Solo mirar ovejas?
¡¿Ovejas?! (Sighs dramatically). Look, the ovejas are *cute*, okay? And yes, there are definitely ovejas around. And cows. And maybe a grumpy moose or two. But there's MUCH more than just livestock appreciation (though, let's be honest, the fresh milk is divine!). You can hike, bike (rentals available!), swim in the sea (brrr, sometimes!), kayak, and explore charming coastal towns. Västervik itself has some lovely shops and restaurants. There's a castle, a museum about old school fishing, even some places where they make their own gin and I might or might not have partaken. Oh, and did I mention the sunsets? They're epic. Seriously, I've seen sunsets here that made me cry. Good cry, though. Because, well, you're in Sweden! And, if you're super lucky, you might see the Northern Lights! It's a gamble, but a spectacular one if you're up for it.
¿Y la comida? ¿Solo arenque en escabeche y pan de centeno? Porque, no gracias...
Okay, okay, I hear you on the *sill* – the pickled herring. It's... an *acquired* taste, let's say. But the food scene in Sweden is actually pretty amazing these days! Especially the local restaurants. I'm always finding the best dishes to add to our cooking class. I'm going to brag a little about my breakfasts. We focus on fresh, local ingredients. Think homemade jams (yes, *I* make them!), fresh bread, eggs from happy chickens, sometimes even Swedish pancakes, which are pure joy. And dinner? Well, that depends. Sometimes I cook for guests (more or less, but hey, I'm trying!), or I can point you to AMAZING restaurants nearby. I also offer cooking classes, where you can learn to make traditional Swedish dishes. It's fun, I promise, even if I burn the occasional meatball (it happens!).
¿Eres una buena anfitriona? ¿No vas a ser una pesadilla?
(Pauses, considers this deeply...). Let me put it this way: I *try* to be a good host. I'm passionate about making people feel welcome, which is pretty much my job. I like to think I'm friendly, helpful, and genuinely excited to share this corner of the world with you. Do I have my moments? Probably. I'm a bit of a whirlwind. I can be a bit...scatterbrained. I might forget to refill the coffee pot *once* or misplace your room key *twice*. I've also been known to launch into impromptu stories about the history of the area at 3 AM, while bleary-eyed and half-caffed. But I also like to think that I'm honest about it. I wouldn't pretend to be some perfect, flawless host. I embrace my imperfections. Because who needs perfection when you have genuine experience? You'll find yourself laughing in the end.
¿Qué tipo de habitaciones tienes? ¿Son cómodas? ¿Importa si soy un bicho raro?
We have a mix of rooms, all of them unique (just like the guests I get). Some are in the original stable stalls (don't worry, they're thoroughly renovated!), and others are in the main building. The beds? Comfortable! We spared no expense in getting the best memory foam toppers and high-quality linen. I want you to sleep like a baby! (Although, again, as a host who doesn't sleep, that's always my dream!). Do you fit in? Absolutely! We welcome *everyone*. Seriously, EVERYONE. Whether you're a seasoned traveler, the shyest wallflower, a bookworm, a musician, or a complete stranger to the Swedish countryside, you're welcome. We get all sorts, and that's what makes it fun! And, honestly, "bicho raro" describes half the people who stay here, including yours truly! So, yes, you'll fit right in. Consider yourself warned: you might just end up making some friends. (And swapping travel stories... with coffee at 3 AM!)
